Upgrade of Land Tenure and Housing Development in Edendale

Edendale is a vast a populous area situated to the north west of Pietermaritzburg. The area was established as a "black" town in the pre-apartheid days. Several thousand residential erven were surveyed starting in the early 1960's. Various forms of title were granted to occupants of the houses which were mainly built using state funds. The state's infrastructure for granting and managing title was not well managed in the past, nor was it controlled effectively.

The spatial accuracy requirement of the GCPs varies according to the usable scale of the satellite imagery but is normally in the range 0.2m to 1.0m for position and 2.0m for height.

The Maguga Dam Network (MDN) had allocated an area for resettling of residents affected by the construction of the Maguga Dam, Swaziland. This area was very remote and had absolutely no infrastructure. The project therefore involved a proper planning scheme. This planning scheme involved an agricultural development program, a layout of residential areas and business areas and a design for a fully functional Cane road.
